Balò whose name in Bengali, the local language, means all right, grew from the conviction that even conditions of extreme poverty present in the world can be alleviated or at least improved by the efforts of many people working together- both volunteers and local inhabitants. Balò works with families to help children to escape the poverty in which they live.
Balò decided to operate in India where there exists a gap that seems unbridgeable between the population who have become wealthy as a result of the economic boom on the one hand and those who have no access to even minimum standards of living on the other. Hygiene conditions are appalling, and many parents find it impossible to send their children to school.
In the slums medical treatment is not accessible.
